Knee Replacement – Day 4 & 5 – Post Surgery

Day 4 post surgery is going even better than day 3. I woke up without a headache although I ended up with one again by the afternoon. Not sure what that’s about.

I had an appointment with my general practitioner to go over my most recent bloodwork and shared with him that I was having a splitting headache and he said the cure was to lie down and drink a Coke. I told him “you know I’m not going to drink a Coke”, and he said OK have an espresso instead. So I did, and it worked! Whoda thunk it? That caffeine would get rid of a splitting headache? Apparently people with migraines know this trick as I shared this remedy with a few people and they validated that it does work.

Day 5 Saturday
Much of the swelling has gone down.
I woke up early this morning and no headache, fingers crossed! I believe the reason I am having so little pain is because I am using Chinese medicine in the form of what I call the magic patch. I don’t even know the name of it because it’s in Chinese. About five years ago I crushed the sesamoid bone in the bottom of my right foot. For anyone who has had this experience you know the excruciating pain that results. I went to the emergency room at a walk-in clinic in Hyde Park and they told me there was really nothing that could be done except to remove all of the tiny bits of bone at some point and they offered me opioids. Lots of them. I turn the opioids down chastised them for offering such potent painkillers and the physician’s assistant on staff looked at me and said “You have no idea how much pain you are going to experience.”

I went home, it was about two in the morning at that point, and got online and searched on pain relief for bone pain. And I found “the patch.” The originator is Master Xingzhen. It also says “old secret recipe of Shaolin temple”

I ordered it from China. On the package it says that it is an “herbal pain-relieving patch. “

The therapeutic indications are “relief of aches and pains of cervical and lumbar spine, neck, shoulder, waist and legs, joint, injury from falls, fraction, contusion and strains as well as soft tissue injury.“

I think I paid about $75 to have it delivered within six hours.  I put it on my foot, which was causing a raging pain, and within minutes the pain was gone.

This time I was prepared. I ordered the patch a couple of weeks ago. I applied it to the back of my knee on day two. And applied a new one yesterday. Since I started using it I have been pain-free.

I AM NOT RECOMMENDING THE PATCH.

I know very little about it except that it does what it says it is supposed to do, which in this case is relieve pain. I have never experienced any ill affects when using the patch.  I have no idea what the ingredients are, so I do not know if they are safe or not. So, I cannot and do not recommend it.

Personally, I believe in Chinese medicine. It has been around for a very long time and I think in many cases, it offers a cure, in contrast to much of US medicine, which tends to focus on treating only the symptoms.

As you can see in this picture of my two legs, the swelling as well as the bruising has gone down considerably in the right knee. Interestingly, every place I put the patch the bruising would disappear. So I just kept moving them around.
